Jeff Carter - Trade Analysis and Impact
Talk about adding an impact player! The Jeff Carter deal was finalized yesterday. What kind of impact will have it on the Blue Jackets and how will the lines look for next season?
Players Impacted: Who will play w/ the dynamic duo of Nash and Carter? One author says, "The lucky set-up man on the wing wins the lottery. Your natural instinct is to put Kristian Huselius there, but not so fast - Derick Brassard won just 46.6% of his face-offs - that is worse than Sami Pahlsson, Derek McKenzie, Antoine Vermette and RJ Umberger. Move Brassard to the wing. They may not do that at first, but I believe it's inevitable."
Any thoughts on moving Brassard to the wing?
Also, it appears that Ryan Johansen may receive a bit more time to develop his game, and may no longer be a lock to make the team. But long-term, that could be a could thing.
What are your thoughts on how this impacts Ryan Johansen?
Projected Top 6:
Nash-Carter-Brassard
Umberger-Vermette-Huselius
Not sure on the 3rd line...?
See below for poll on how Carter will be utilized at ES.

I like Brassard as well for his chemistry with Nash. It should also be pretty easy for him to look good alongside two of the best goal scorers in the league – great for his confidence and his numbers.

At the beginning of the season, i would really like to see Juice up on the first line with Nash and Carter. With Juice’s skill (whether you like him or not, hes got some) he could fit well up there. If that doesnt work out, throw Brass up there and see how he does.
The PP will be interesting. I say Juice, Carter, Nash, then maybe a fourth forward in Umby (front of net) and hopefully a new defensemen with skill. Thats a lot better than our PP this year.. well it should be anyway.
Also, it appears that Ryan Johansen may receive a bit more time to develop his game, and may no longer be a lock to make the team.
He will make the team. NOthing to learn in Juniors anymore. Cant play in AHL i believe. I just dont know how much he will play. If we move Brass to wing then he could fit in nicely as well.
You have to be 20 to play in the AHL, right? If so, then yeah, he can’t play there.

If you’re coming from Major Junior, then yes. Pretty sure you can come over from Europe as a teenager and go to the AHL (Mikkel Boddker, I think, for example).

Umbarger on the First line
My reasoning is that he will go get the puck in the corners for Nash and Carter! Huselius won’t go in there and Brassard won’t come out with the puck! Put Brassard on the second line with Vermette at center and Huselius!
Huse the Juice will get the starting nod but I think we all know that won’t last and he will be demoted and Brass will get a chance, I nicknamed him ‘Lil Nash’ last season for how well they worked together and…well…61, 16….lame i know.
and Johan needs some more time, obviously with Jeff Skinner becoming a name in Carolina and only being what? 18, 19? I think might give some GM’s possible itchy trigger fingers and pull too soon on some of their young commodities. I’d rather have him wait another season or two. Few other players I’d rather see come up this year then the Johan….he’ll get his time to shine soon enough tho.

The thing with Johansen is that he can’t play in the AHL next season and he pretty clearly has nothing left to learn in Juniors.
