I really have a hard time with Blysma’s comment that Tyutin say him coming. Does he really mean that, as long as the recipient sees it, it is okay? You can check from behind in the NHL, but you cannot be allowed to blast people from behind without slowing down.
As long as the Pens (not the fans, the team itself) condones and encourages this type of play, it is hard to feel sorry for them when Crosby is the recipient of a questionable hit. If they want Cooke to run around the rink and risk hurting people with questionable hits, they cannot complain when the same thing happens to their players. Cooke runs up the tab, but then Crosby and others will have to pay the bill.

Funny that the Pens think this hit was clean, but the Steckel “hit” (more of collision) was suspendable. What a joke. They probably though the Steckel collision was worse than the Cooke hit on Savard.
As for Cooke an Bylsma saying that Tyutin “saw him coming” thats rediculous. It does not matter if he sees him coming. Cooke is not allowed to make that hit. Wouldnt it be nice if once, just once, a player says something like “I made a mistake with that hit, i deserve to be suspended” or something. They need to take accountability with these types of hits. Cooke is a joke
Holy crap was that a dirty hit. Yikes.

Update from Nick Kypreos – Cooke has been suspended four games. Apparently his hearing got bumped up.

Good, it’s well deserved. They let him get away with the hit on Ovechkin the other night, but he had to push his luck.

Sooner or later Cooke will get a huge suspension. He is putting the stars of this league in jeopardy. He has possibly ended a career for star forward for the Bruins, Marc Savard. Dirty hit on Ovechkin the other night. Now the hit on Tyutin. And many other hits Cooke has made. This is not the last dirty check Cooke will make, but hopefully after his next check they really give it to him.
Great idea...
I like Ken Daneyko’s idea:
“I’m as crazy as this: The NHL [should declare] open season for one week on Matt Cooke. You won’t get suspended. Then we’ll see if he’ll continue [his behavior] for the rest of the season or his career.”
