2011 NHL Trade Deadline: Open Thread
Let's see if there's some action today. I'm hoping for Liles, but we'll have to wait and see what Howson can pull off! Use this thread for conversation throughout the day, and we'll have a post up for any moves that are made. Stay tuned!

My main hope for today: the Jackets not overpaying for anything. Really, I’m okay with the CBJ staying mostly the same if it means that we don’t lose too much for next year.
Reasonable hope.
I keep thinking that if Howson makes a deal, it’s going to be later than sooner – feels like he’ll try to paitently wait and get something at the last moment to get the best possible deal.

Interesting, Bergfors was one of the bigger pieces in the Kovy trade. Dudley has familiarity with Dvorak though so it makes sense.

I ended up having to go in to the office, which I thought was going to scuttle the day. Turns out, when I get there he has the TV up and running with TSN on, and we’ve got our laptops constantly refreshing.
Awesome. Now we just need to see some trades!

Avs fan here
As you all probably know, your team is interested in Liles.
What do Blue Jackets fans think is a fair trade for Liles? (And if you say a 3rd round draft pick like Brian Burke I will hunt you down, find you and kick you squawe in the nuts / and/or babymakers)

A second. Or maybe a second and a guy like Anton Stralman. I think that’s the consensus around here.
Fair enough. What about a 2nd and a prospect like Calvert?

Calvert has been too valuable of late, but I think someone like Sigalet or Nick Holden could be moved.

With his recent play, Calvert has all but forced his way on to this team. He’s not so much a prospect anymore. I threw the idea of Stralman and a second rounder out there, but Strals just got hurt yesterday. The first rounder likely (hopefully) won’t be in play.

Is Stralman a projected puck-mover or solid shutdown.

Puck Mover, somewhat of a PP specialist. He’s having a down year, but he’s still pretty young and has been reasonably successful in the past.

Then the Avs absolutely do not need him. We are stocked in that area

He’s getting evaluated today, but it appeared to be a knee on knee hit yesterday.

What’s your opinion on Filatov? The Jackets fanbase has generally soured on him, but I’m sure he still looks like a nice potential-filled scorer to other teams.
Yeah
If we wanted Filatov we would have kept Wolski

Does Canada shut down today

#Caps trade 3rd in 2011 and Jake Hauswirth to FLA for defenseman Dennis Wideman.
SportsNet in Canada seems to claim that the Jackets are shopping Garon. I can’t imagine why another team would want him or give up anything to get him.
maybe he is part of a package deal

There are going to be a LOT of goaltenders available this offseason who could fit in a backup role. Plus there’s LeNeveau and Wesslau in Springfield who might make a push for the job.

Did not see that move coming. Upshall’s a nice bit of nasty up front, and Lepisto is a good steady guy on the back end.

At first glance I like it.

Upshall will look great on our third line, and maybe we’ll get some scoring out of that line.

Does anybody know if we gave up anything other than Klesla?

Hearing that we also traded Dane Byers from Springfield, but not comfirmed yet.

It’s now comfirmed: Byers and Klesla for Upshall and Lepisto.

Fun fact about Upshall: His 27 points (16G, 11A) make him 5th on the team in scoring.
Lepisto’s 4 goals will be tied with Kris Russell for second best on the club’s defense.
It is a little sad to see Rusty go, but I like the feel of these guys in the lineup. Have to wonder what else may come, though.

Upshall is one of those guys you hate unless he’s on your team. Thankfully, now he’s on our team.

Report from TheFourthPeriod on TSN live chat: “I’m told the Jackets could be lining up for another move.”
With upshall in we don’t exactly need Clark anymore.

We could also be setting up to make a move at Liles or another d-man. With Klesla gone, I have a feeling they’ll want another guy in case Stralman is done. Lepisto’s had some scoring success, but I don’t think anyone’s calling him “really” an offensive d-man.

what I mean is, maybe we can move him as part of another deal, not as a centerpiece or anything.

E.J. Hradek on ESPN: "Columbus GM Scott Howson says he doesn’t anticipate doing any other deals today. "
OTOH, I think Howson would say that regardless. He’s been very, very cautious about what he says in the media.

I don’t think the Avs were as interested in giving up Liles as we all thought.

If Penner went to the Kings for A first, 2nd/3rd AND Teubert, the Kings got hosed.

Yeah. A lot of buzz right now about Liles. Some fake reports but there may be some truth in there.

liles
crapping my pants here…but only because I fear the prospect the jackets would have to give up to complete this trade.
NOOOOO!
Hopfully that is another false report. If not, I hope that it’s somehting that can be a long term fix for the team. I felt like he would be a big part of the future here.
Not happy if true.
I can’t really comment on this without learning more about Moore and Chaput, but with that ignorance this is pretty disappointing. I have a feeling even if Moore and Chaput are nice pieces people are going to flip, even the ones who didn’t understand why Sestito was sent back down to the AHL earlier in the season.
