Around SBN: Seahawks Trade for TE Kellen Winslow

Justin Bourne, as mentioned in last night's recap, would like to see Rick Nash (and equally skilled stars) move to teams that will get more national media attention, rather than play for teams where the attempt to get a Cup will be much more difficult and few will see him as the dominant player he is in the NHL.

His argument is a good one, and though it hurts me as a fan, I admit that from someone outside of Columbus, it makes sense, particularly for showcasing a talented player in the prime of his career.

Fortunately, sports isn't always about just what makes business sense, and Rick Nash is as loyal to Columbus as the fans have been to him.

It's still worth a look, and worth taking a serious, thoughtful read.

I can guarantee you that despite the fact that nobody outside of Columbus cares for the Blue Jackets, Rick Nash has always had the attention of every true hockey fan I know. Maybe it’s because I live in Montreal, where every living person bleeds hockey, but Rick Nash has certainly not remained hidden all these years.
I’m being extremely biased, because it would kill me to see Rick Nash leave, and this article is basically saying that Columbus would never deserve to win a cup, because we shouldn’t be allowed to hold onto the players that would allow us to do so. Do I see his point? Maybe – but don’t forget that before Crosby came to Pittsburgh, they were very close to selling the team and shipping them off. The spotlight wasn’t on Crosby, because he went to a city like Pittsburgh, but rather the spotlight was on Pittsburgh, because they have a player like Crosby.
Teams don’t get built and earn glory overnight. The jackets have only been in Columbus for 10 years. I’m sure that one day, given the hockey programs I keep hearing about in Ohio, Columbus will gain a bigger role in the national spotlight.

Correct me if I’m wrong – I actually have no idea how things work in Columbus :) I’d rather hear it from somebody who actually lives there, but yeah … keep Rick Nash :D

No way it would happen...

I would be livid at the mere mention of this trade prospect if it weren’t so far-fetched. It would never happen in the first half of a contract such as Nash’s. The Jackets will be just fine… wait until they get a couple Playoff runs in them. It’s going to happen.
