Game 36 Open Thread: Flames At Jackets
Calgary Flames at Columbus Blue Jackets, Dec 27, 2011 7:00 PM EST
Since I'm...ah...temporarily underemployed this week (I start a new gig after the new year, don't worry about me), I ran down to get some video from the pre-game skate and Scott Arniel's press conference. Take a look!
The good news, as coach Arniel said, is that the Flames haven't actually gotten into a full game yet, so hopefuly the Jackets will be able to make that work for them.
The bad news is that the Jackets will have to go back to back, and Steve Mason will be asked to get himself up and "stop the bleeding" given the news that Curtis Sanford is banged up.
The NHL's trade freeze will "thaw" at midnight. A change in Columbus seems inevitable, but what form it may take could be shaped by what happens tonight.
In hopeful jinx news, Jarome Iginla is a hat trick away from 500 career NHL goals. Yeah.
The weather is getting ugly out there. Be safe!

I’m liking Mase’s new pads. I always like the dark/colored pads better than white. Anyone know why Sandman isn’t in net for the back-to-back?
STILL BELIEVE COLUMBUS
I tried to watch the game. I’m at the Columbus airport and neither airport would put the game on.

After 2, the Jackets are up 1-0 thanks to Brass. Gut check time.

Yeah, so, the gut check has somewhat failed. Iginla left alone in the slot punches goal #598 through Mason and we’re tied at 1, but I must admit not actually losing yet.

Well, we have a point, anyhow.
Really, defense has not been a problem tonight, but it would be nice to beat Kipper in OT rather than going to a Shootout.

Both teams with some opportunities, but Kipper and Mason are both looking like NHL goalies tonight.

Mason nearly muffed the luck with 3 seconds left in OT. Gaah. Fortunately he finally flopped on it.

Actually an entertaining overtime. I have to say though that Nash’s shooting doesn’t look as fast or acurate as it used to. I don’t mean to bash the captain, but I just don’t see him making very many good plays these days. I wonder if he is still untouchable or if he might be traded. As I say this he will probably score in the shootout…
Considering you were talking to yourself the entire game, I’d say no.

Bit the score sheet says almost 17k showed up to the game. That’s amazing to me.

I care but can’t pay attention as much when I’m on breaks. Upstate NY is not so good at covering hockey outside of NYC and Buffalo, so I miss CBJ stuff when I’m out of Ohio.
CCT, CBJ, SU, NYM, Bills Fan. It can be depressing.
