Game 26 Open Thread: Jackets at Oilers
Columbus Blue Jackets at Edmonton Oilers, Dec 2, 2011 9:30 PM EST
To keep up with Dan's theme, welcome to the Dark Side of the Schwartz. With the matchup tonight in Rexall place starting late, we'll make a pot of coffee, get on our comfy jammies, and perhaps indulge with a bit of brandy in the mug. It is Friday night, after all.
News out of the Albertan wilderness is that Kristian Huselius will return from the IR tonight to play in his first game of the season. You may recall when he did something similar against the Oilers last season and came away with a hat trick...but unfortunately Steve Mason couldn't stop a beach ball that night, so the Jackets lost 6-3. Hopefully we can give him a better welcome back present tonight since Curtis Sanford is confirmed as the starter.
The real question is how the Jackets' lineup will adjust with Juice back in the picture. Do you move him to the wing with Johansen and Letestu? Does Prospal bump down to put Juice with Nash and Carter, and Umberger goes to the third line? It seems like Cody Bass would be scratched, but would the team take advantage of the chaos to sneak Derick Brassard back in on the fourth line? Is this the start (again?) of three scoring lines?
We have many questions, but few answers. Perhaps the pre-game skate will offer some clarity...

OK, late news that Jeff Carter is out tonight due to a lower body injury suffered last night. He’s considered day to day.

Carter is starting to frustrate me. Not exactly him, just that he can’t stay healthy

To be fair, Carter seems to have been hurt last night during the game and came back to finish, and he gets a few days to rest.

Wow. Nash gets hooked all of 13 seconds in? Lame.

And that’s what happens when one of the worst (worst away from home, surely?) PKs goes up against one of the best (definitely first at home) PPs. Pathetic. Such a stupid penalty to pick up right away from Nash.
Worst thing is the way Vermette was caught completely flat-footed by that pass to Eberle.

Well, we had Umberger-Brass-Dorse, but now some variation of Boll-Umberger was a line? Or was that only a line change? It’s hard to tell these days.

Considering how the speed is such a factor in playing versus Edmonton, I don’t like to see Tyutin pinch in like that. The Jackets are lucky the outlet was not so quick or crisp, but that nearly became a 2-on-1.

how has 20 affected the game/lines?
by Gr8fulnfa on Dec 2, 2011 11:06 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Not a big impact on ice yet, honestly. He had a couple of good opportunities but he’s passing rather than shooting – makes sense if he’s not 100% confident in his repaired muscles for a hard shot.
As lines go, they’ve been pretty constantly getting reworked.

Although Juice hasn’t been great he has had some nice passes. He had a nice pass to Vermette on a 2 on 1 but Vermette wasn’t ready. He set up Umberger in the slot who in turn hit a defender’s stick and he set up Nash alone with the goalie but he couldn’t finish. Not bad for not playing for so long. I agree that he needs to shoot more, but that is always an issue with Juice and I would still take his playmaking abilities over Nash’s turnovers anyday. Especially tonight when Sanford has bailed out Nash several times.
