Today in the "A": Falcons Moves & Player of the Week
The morning started with the assignment of Alexandre Giroux back to the Falcons. Giroux had played nine games for the Blue Jackets, and after a quick start with a goal in his first game, he was kept off the scoresheets in the next eight games. He was a scratch in Philadelphia last Saturday.
Brett Lebda signed a PTO with the Falcons.
I would like to think that there has to be a deeper reason to bring Lebda in, but if there is, I can't grasp it. In the past few weeks, there have been other defensemen brought in on PTO's. Ray Macias was here, played three games, scored three points and was a +3. Macias was released.
Darcy Campbell signed a PTO on October 25th. As close as he got to game action was a healthy scratch.
And so it is, Lebda a former Stanley Cup champion while with the Red Wings, joins a crowded Springfield blueline. It will be very interesting to see how he blends in with a capable defense in Springfield.
Player of the Week:
Dan Sexton of the Syracuse Crunch was named Player of the Week.
Sexton came into the weekend with four points in his first nine games this season. He then exploded for nine points in two games this past weekend.
The Crunch had a weekend home and home with the Rochester Americans. Saturday night in the 'Cuse, Sexton chalked up a goal and 4 helpers in the 5-2 Crunch win. Sunday in Rochester, Sexton scored another goal and contributed three assists as the Crunch fell 6-5 in overtime.
Nine points out of ten goals - a performance worthy of the Player of the Week Award!

With only 7 defensemen and 6 healthy I think it is about having an extra player just in case. Macias should not have have been released, he was playing better than at least half the defense. Plus he put up points and moved the puck. I don’t understand that one. Lebda adds some veteran presence to the defense and not a big risk, if it does not work, he gets released. Maybe they are going to send someone to Chicago (Regner! Haha). The defense is a weaker area, so why not keep trying to improve it?

I too found the Macias release baffling. Sometimes it’s the stuff that we don’t see off the ice, maybe?
If Lebda works out, that’s great. If not, well…you know how that goes!
Good points Katy…thanks!
And how about a little love for #28? (LOL)

No love for Regner right now. LoL I would rather see him as a foward in all honesty. He did well when put at foward for a few games last season. And his turnovers and positioning are not good enough for an AHL defenseman. So, why not?
Poor kid is becoming one of the defensemen I hate to see on the ice…a la Cody Wild, Doug O’brien, Harlan Pratt, Nikos Tselios and a few others over the years. LoL
