Around SBN: Yu Darvish Diagnosed With Mariners Fever

From today's FWIW department, the Springfield Falcons announced today that they have signed ex-Detroit Red Wing defenseman Brett Lebda to a Pro Tryout Agreement.

Lebda last played 41 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2010-2011 season. The Leafs traded him to the Nashville Predators last summer.

I don’t know much about this guy. What are your thoughts on this signing?

He was one of the worst defensemen in the entire NHL last year and Toronto fans continue to celebrate the fact that they got rid of him. No seriously – just ask a Leafs fan if they remember Lebda and they’re bound to turn a sickly green… or just punch you for mentioning him.

In a 9-3 blowout win by the Leafs over the Thrashers last year, Brett Lebda was only on ice for 10:54 and still managed to be -3 for the game. He’s a remarkable player, in that he has been crazy terrible over the past year or so and has no place in the NHL.

CCT, CBJ, SU, NYM, Bills Fan. It can be depressing.

yes, hes absolutely horrible. I think the Leafs fans had a National party when they traded him to Nashville. They didnt even care what they got back in return. The Lebda jokes than run through Toronto are pretty funny though. #likealebda

He's not the bottom of the barrel.

He’s not underneath the barrel.

He’s not even remotely close to the barrel.

He doesn’t deserve mention in the same sentence as barrels.

At least he won a Cup ring (bahahahaha… ahh good times). (Actually, they were bad times)

And there’s your Leafs scouting report

just when it looked like this organization had finally hit absolute rock bottom, they found some dynamite and made the hole exponentially deeper.

Players are in and out on PTO’s frequently in the AHL.

If they are a good fit, the AHL club will sign them to a standard AHL contract. If not, he will be released and have the opportunity to show his talents elsewhere.

Two players on last year’s Falcons, for example: Nick Tarnasky – signed PTO and ended up signed and played the whole season. Jay Pandolfo – signed PTO and was released relatively quickly. This year, Jay caught on with the Islanders.

The PTO is kind of the lottery ticket of the AHL.
