Today in the "A": Taylor Released

The Springfield Falcons announced on Tuesday that goaltender Danny Taylor has been released from his PTO with the club.

This marks the second consecutive season that Taylor has come to Springfield, made some positive contributions to the team and then was summarily dismissed.

Statistically, Taylor played in ten games for the Falcons, posting a record of five wins and three losses. His goals against average was 2.58, and he authored a .914 save percentage. His goals against and save percentage increased after some recent struggles.

Last season, Taylor appeared in four games for the Falcons, recording two wins and two losses, with a 2.35 goals against and a .929 save percentage.

After his release last season, Taylor played in Germany with the "Hamburg Freezers".

Taylor was the seventh round pick, 221st overall of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

When Allen York was returned by the Blue Jackets, the handwriting was on the wall for Taylor.

The next piece of the Falcons goaltending puzzle will come when Mark Dekanich heals and is ready to play. At that point, based on Curtis Sanford's solid play for the Jackets, it will be interesting to see whether Dex or the Sandman stay with the big club to work alongside Steve Mason.
