Game 23 Open Thread: Blues at Blue Jackets

St. Louis Blues at Columbus Blue Jackets, Nov 27, 2011 6:00 PM EST

No big news out of today's morning skate other than Steve Mason coming in to back up Curtis Sanford, and Allen York being send back to Springfield.

We're about to have a clash of irresistible forces and immovable objects - the Blues, who have been riding a hot streak all month, vs. Curtis Sanford and his 1.00 GAA on home ice this season. With all the stories involved in tonight's matchup, you have to think that a lot of guys will have their juices flowing, and who knows what could happen?

R.J. Umberger has had quite a bit of success against St. Louis. Rick Nash and David Backes seem to have a constant battle when they meet up on the ice. Ryan Reaves and Jared Boll seem quite likely to renew hostilities. And just what impact will Jeff Carter and James Wisniewski have on this matchup?

If you're not at the game, stop here to keep an eye on the game, and we'll see what shakes out tonight down at Nationwide...

I bet Sanford is eager to show the Blues what they’re missing.

Adam Foote still blows!

Late update: Brass out, Bass in. Johnson still scratched.

I miss seeing Johnson out there. As for Brass… I have never seen him look so lost out there. I don’t feel he is a grinding enough player to be on a third/fourth line, though. Perhaps he’ll be traded.

Re: Brass

@LoriSchmidt: I don’t know if he’s implying something’s up or just questioning the decision, but Brassard’s agent is tweeting about Brass being scratched.

Referencing
@walsha: Derick Brassard of Columbus has 12 pts in 12 career games vs. St. Louis, healthy scratch today. Hmm.

Mr. Walsh is very chatty about his players and gets very supportive/defensive about them. It’s hard for me to read too much into his motives besides just making them look better.

CCT, CBJ, SU, NYM, Bills Fan. It can be depressing.

Is there more of a superstitious athlete than a hockey goalie? I don’t know what Sanford does at the end of every period, but it makes me laugh.

Two big things separating us and the blues after one. Our passes have been god awful this period. Not sure if ice is bad or what but we are getting out passes. Second, we are losing too many battles. Been sloppy in the d zone so need to win the battles and we aren’t getting it done.
Overall, pretty disappointing period IMO for both teams. I expected a higher intensity but we will have I see if it picks up

by cbjfan14 on Nov 27, 2011 6:42 PM EST via iPhone app reply actions

OK, here we go with the second period!

Jackets going to the PP – St. Louis dinged for too many men on the ice.

I hate world series of poker.

I was looking forward to recording and then watching the game tonight…but once again. Time Warner Cable an/or Fox Sports Ohio thinks that I would rather watch some other program than hockey. %$#@&

Anyway. go jackets!. I guess I’ll have to read the highlights later on the cannon.

Man, St. Louis is not so good about staying on the PP…then going offside on the 4 on 4. Smooth!

So I take it you haven’t watched any CBJ hockey since Carter returned from his injury. Because it has been extremely entertaining and generally high-quality. Even including this game, the team has been very competitive and the blowout losses have essentially disappeared.

Did you know, if you extrapolate the only 4-2-2 record with the “full” team around (that is, both Carter and Wiz in the lineup instead of only one), you’d be watching a team with the 9th best point percentage in the NHL (62.5%). You should really watch the team sometime – they’re doing quite fine when everybody is playing.

CCT, CBJ, SU, NYM, Bills Fan. It can be depressing.
