Roster Moves: York Officially Up, Calvert Goes Down

Stay connected for news and updates

As mentioned earlier, the Blue Jackets have officially called up goaltender Allen York from the Springfield Falcons (where he returned after a start in Chicago this past weekend for the Express) to back up Curtis Sanford after Steve Mason was injured during the pre-game skate this morning. (No official new on the injury at this point, but the club describes him as "day to day" with an upper body injury.)

To free up a roster spot, Matt Calvert, who appeared to be a likely scratch this morning, was sent down to the Falcons.

Calvert has continued to struggle in his sophomore season, so perhaps a chance to get his legs under him and find some confidence in the AHL, particularly if he can create some chemistry with players like Cam Atkinson or Tomas Kubalik, is a good thing.

Meanwhile, York will slot into the backup role while we wait to see what will come next from GM Scott Howson, while Manny Legace and Dan Taylor will take over the Springfield tandem.
