As the disappointing start to the season continues, another young player becomes a casualty of an anemic offense. Forward Matt Calvert has been assigned to Springfield. Calvert has just one assist and two PIM in five games this season, but is also +1--one of only six players with a positive mark, and one of only three not on the high-octane top scoring line.
The team has not announced a call-up to replace Calvert on the roster at this point.
I don't want to read a ton into this until a call-up is announced, but one wonders if this is another one of those "we don't want young guys to see this crap!" moves as the Cam Atkinson move was framed. Either way, the Jackets need more scoring, and they need more defense. James Wisniewski can't come back soon enough.
