Gabriel Done For The Year With Shoulder Surgery
Left Winger Oliver Gabriel of the Portland WInterhawks, who earned a contract with the Blue Jackets as an undrafted free agent after an impressive training camp and pre-season, was shut down for the year today after shoulder surgery.
Gabriel had 11 goals and 21 assists in 41 games, a career high for him in the WHL. He dislocated his shoulder in October, then aggravated the injury on the 15th against the Kamloops Blazers.
Gabriel is expected to be recovered in time for training camp this summer - I would expect that if he continue to perform to a high level in camp, we'll see him in the Falcons next season, meaning this could be the end of his WHL career.
