August!
Hey Jackets fans!
I am sitting in the dining room of my new house, I've got boxes and plastic storage containers surrounding me, with my laptop cycling in and out of connectivity with the wireless internet that I am stealing from one of my new neighbors. This is the first house for my wife and I, we are in our early twenties and decided to make the move from apartment living to home ownership.
Enough of that though!
Let's talk about August and what you would like to see from Andrew, Matt, Andy, Clint and myself this month. I have a piece on what the Springfield Falcons roster should look like to start the year coming soon (internet provider is hooking me up on Thursday), and the boys and myself are going to look into some potential training camp battles later in the month. Of course if there are any major headlines coming from Jacket land we'll give you our spin on them, but what else would you like to see from The Cannon?
Hit the comments, and if you want insight on something specific, or a new feature, whatever it may be, we'll try to make it happen.
Now let's see if the wireless will stay connected long enough for me to post this....

I’m by no means a Jackets fan and don’t plan to be, curse you ;), but I enjoy reading Jackets stuff nonetheless.
$0.02 from the Predators’ corner of SBNation – the Jackets are one of, if not the least known team in the NHL now that the Thrashers have been merged with the Blackhawks. I’d enjoy an in depth season preview. Outside of Mason and Nash, I’m ashamed to say I don’t know the rest of your roster too well. Brassard, Vermette, Commodre, Stralman…at this point I’m reaching. See what I mean? Anyway, something, if not necessarily a preview, that would school me the reader better in the way of the Blue Jackets.

Chris, thanks man. We’ll definitely be doing a season preview, I sometimes forget the lack of exposure the Jackets receive, so maybe a player by player preview is in order for this season.
I have to say though- Lombardi is one of the best signings this summer. Shrewd move, and I think it will benefit the Preds greatly.
Thanks for the input man.

No problem. I know about the BJs insofar as you guys, the Dark Blue Jacket, watching NSH/CBJ games, and Portzline tell me, so the more info the better. Always like to know who’s ass we’ll be kicking all year ;).
Agreed on Lombardi. A lot of folks outside of Nashville think he won’t do well, but its because they don’t realize why Poile signed him – its not a direct replacement for Jason Arnott. Lombardi is a stop-gap until Colin Wilson has matured enough to takeover the 1C position. Matt can play 1C, 2C, PP, and PK, so he’s a very versatile player.
When you consider that Poile essentially traded Jason Arnott for Lombardi, Matt Halischuk, and a 2nd rounder, then picked up Ryan Parent and Sergei Kostitsyn for free, its been a pretty good offseason for Nashville.

I’ve said it before, I wish to hell that the Preds weren’t in the Central. I respect Poile and Trotz so much.
What kind of role do you think Sergei will fill? Up here in Canada the media has turned him into a spoiled brat who is cancerous to the locker room. What have you heard?

I think that Kostitsyn certainly has work ethic and attitude problems, but he’s been given a new lease on life. He has all the offensive talent in the world – probably the most on our roster. He has two choices: he can a) work hard, and put up points which will earn him a new contract that pays a lot more than 500K, or b) continue to pout and end up penalty killing for John Grahame in Russia. Its a win-win situation for the Predators.
That said, I think he’ll play on the 2nd scoring line, whoever that consists of, and the 2nd PP unit, and we’ll see where it goes from there. He has too much raw offensive talent to leave on the bench.

I don’t know how to say this without seeming biased, because I’m from Montreal. I wouldn’t have taken Sergei if they payed us! He makes his linemates worse, unfortunately. Montreal gave him many chances to prove himself, and they thought that a stint in the AHL would bring things into perspective but he came back the same. The preds can have him, I wouldn’t have wanted him on the jackets roster.
Jackets History
I think it would be cool to do some sort of “This Day in Jackets History” thing to go along with the Shrapnel section (assuming that sticks around). It would be interesting for those of us who are more recently brought into the fold to get random specific memories. It would also be a neat tie-in with the 10th Anniversary stuff too.
Anyways, thanks again for all the work you guys do. It’s neat to see a (relatively) active CBJ place on the web. You guys and the Dark Blue Jacket are excellent bloggers.
Thanks Zeke!
I absolutely love the idea of tying in with the 10th anniversary. That sounds like a season long feature, and I think we will implement it.
Shrapnel will definitely be back once the season starts. It’s on hiatus during the summer, due to the lack of daily CBJ content, but we’ll get it back up and running in late September. In the meantime Matt has been doing a link post on Fridays.

Not sure what to really say to add on to this site. I think my biggest want is to see if thrive and get more people interested in the Jackets.
Philadelphia Flyers/Columbus Blue Jackets...don't ask me how.
yeah, agreed there, this is nothing like the browns or indians sites. I really feel like the only way we’re going to get more people is to win more games though.
I have been complimented many times and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough.
I agree with you there, but I also think a lot of it can be attributed to there just being more Indians and Browns fans in general. I mean, Blue Jacketmania hasn’t exactly run wild over Ohio, and there are plenty of people everywhere who are Indians and Browns fans.

yeah, this goes along with the history of each franchise. the other two have been around for well over 50 years, the jackets have existed for 10 :/

I want to say give it time, but 40 years is way too long to wait. Wins bring fans, in our case.

I’ve also got a post in the works previewing the team’s PP situation. Early signs are pointing towards Coach Arniel using a 4th forward on at least 1 PP line. This could get interesting…
