Nash talked a little bit about promoting NHL 2k11, but it's clear that his mind is a little more focused on -actual- hockey. Good to see that he's setting the bar higher for himself than the national media are.

Although I think if Brass and Filatov try to grow them, they’ll turn out looking like Sid’s trash ’stache…

Playoff mantality

During the playoffs the jackets took on an entirely different look. During regular season games players were giving it all up in the defensive zone. Then in the playoffs it became second nature and everyone was giving up the body. Defense is what needs bolstered Arneil has seen this. During the playoff season nobody lead the team physically more than RJ Umberger… This man is a beast giving 110% every time he hits the ice. I watched him give up the body a lot during the play off year and it became infectious. Boll, Brassard, etc… During the playoffs, teams had a hard time getting down low. We were able to keep them to the outside and we were forcing the long shots from the blue lines. This is precisely what we need now. No goalie worth his salt can stop the relentless pursuit of the puck that occurs when teams are crashing the net. Once Mason is down and the play is in that close, his reaction time is cut by 2/3rds. So defensively we need to push the play to the boards more consistently.
I am anxious to see how we do this year! I have high hopes. I am sour on Filatov but I am giving him a chance. He showed nothing during his first go round, Step up Filatov, pull your share of the CANNON and this team will succeed in triplicate!

I’d say Filatov showed his incredible knack for finding the back of the net. Hitch didn’t give him his chance. Filatov’s attitude has already done a 180, I think, because he was eager to return to Columbus and get back to working out with his teammates. Showing up 6 weeks early says a lot. I know he has a lot of bridges to rebuild, but it’ll pay off in the long run.

Is anyone else concerned that his goal is only to make the playoffs? 29 other NHL captains are saying they want to win the Stanley Cup…

I think “Get there and win some games” is an acceptable step up from “Get there but get swept.”

Its a damn good start in my mind. Focus on getting there first, then focus on going all the way to the Cup. The problem with 29 other captains is 28 of them are going to fall short of their expectations.
