End of the Shootout?
OK I really don't think anyone likes the shootout anymore. I want to know what you guys think about it, and what solutions you have.
This article talks about a few ideas. The thought of a 3-on-3 sounds awful. I'm almost of the opinion they should go to a sudden death 20 minute period - someone will have to score eventually.

I actually still like the shootout. I think the tension it creates in the building is awesome.
That said, I think I like the idea of 5 minutes of 4 on 4 followed by 5 minutes of 3 on 3.

I like the long change 4 on 4. I also think they should do it like baseball, just keep playing until someone scores. if they have a 5 hour game, so be it.
I have been complimented many times and they always embarrass me; I always feel that they have not said enough.
I’m in this mindset. Maybe not a 5 hour game – that would be pretty ridiculous. But a continuous 20 min. overtime would be fine with me. Even continuous 10 minute periods would be good.
I think if these athletes can be conditioned well enough to play 82 games, playing an extra 10-20 minutes one in every 10 games or so shouldn’t be a problem.

I like continuous because some teams have shootout ‘specialists’ where others don’t. You could make an argument on being wise on draft day to do so but…c’mon. Play it out, let outsiders b!tch that it’s too long. If other sports are allowed to continue til someone wins then hockey should be no different.

Best Record wins
I think since both teams pick up a point for the tie anyway then the game should end. Both teams walk away with 1 point each and the third was not obtainable. Teams will work a lot harder in the 3rd period to get that final point.

People hate ties in hockey. I’m on the fence about it. Its like soccer, ties suck. I’d rather the teams keep playing until someone proves they’re the better squad to win the game.
