Top 50 Remaining UFAs
Yahoo! Sports posted a list of the best 50 remaining UFAs that are on the market (who's name doesn't rhyme with Shmilya Shmovalchuk).
I'm going to throw some of those names out there and see what you guys think...Yay, or nay?
Forwards:
C Brendan Morrison - "Rejuvenated his career with a solid 2009-10 season in Washington, he’s an attractive option as a No. 4 center who can step onto a top line and contribute on the power play."
C Eric Belanger (even though I still hate him for knocking Chimmer goofy last preseason) - "A perfect pivot for the third or fourth line, he’s hard-working and hard to play against."
LW Raffi Torres - "The fact he ended the 2009-10 playoffs sitting in the press box rather than suiting up for the Sabres shows the pickings are already getting slim up front. Torres plays a hard-hitting game and should be a 20-goal scorer…but he isn’t."
Defensemen:
Shaone Morrisonn - "Not a great sign when the Capitals don’t bring you back, but Morrisonn’s size and skating ability should land him a job."
Andreas Lilja - "Third-pairing D-man for the Wings is a good skater and has an offensive touch."

I’d rather see someone like Murray or Derek MacKenzie get a chance to take the 4th line center job, and with Filatov coming back and Calvert competing for a spot, where would Raffi fit in the lineup?
Neither Morrisonn or Lilja really meet our needs for the defense. I’d rather wait for a possible trade on that end of things.

depending on what happens with strahlman in arby, Lilja might be an option.
I hate the steelers the way a mother loves a child.

Maybe. But I can’t help but think that if Howson’s serious about grabbing a puck moving defenseman in a trade, he’s just as likely to walk away from the arbitration and then pull the trigger, and let one of the up and coming guys fight for a final spot in training camp.

Apparently Don Lou learned how to say “Omerta” in Russian.

Remaining free agents?
I know that Frolov, Afinogenov and Ponikarovsky are still available. Having seen the last two play in the east, I really think that either one of them would be a solid addition to the jackets, potentially at a very reasonable price.
Any chance of the jackets pursuing any one of these free agents? With the cap space left, I don’t see why we haven’t dipped in the free agent offerings.
I don’t really see a spot for another top six winger right now, not with Filatov expected to be back.
Who would you move out of the lineup? Certainly not Nash or Voracek. Huselius might be tradable, but finding takers for his contract would be difficult. None of those guys play Centre, so they don’t make sense in place of Brass or Vermette, either, and frankly they’ll want too much money to play in the bottom six, especially when we have Umberger, Clark, Dorsett, Moreau, Boll, MacKenzie, and potentially Calvert to figure out.
