Thinking out loud

How much would Modano help Columbus if we were to pursue him this summer? I know Columbus loves to pick up washed up players (the sting of Peca is still felt) but I think Modano could be a steal. Maybe we can move somebody down to 4th line center and have Modano on the second or third line? I know he's a goal scorer, not a grinder, but with his age he's not as mobile as he used to be. Just something to think about.

While I respectfully see your point, I must respectfully say no. You mentioned Peca, also see: Sergei Fedorov. With all due respect to Fed, it just didn’t pan out. We couldn’t capture any of that magic we hoped for.

Modano would be a great leader in a locker room, but he wouldn’t fit in with our team and what we’re trying to do. I’d rather bring Manny back…speaking of which – he’s on Puck Daddy’s Top 10 Centers You Would Want on Your Team

After thinking about it, I’m of the same opinion. We’ve danced this dance before, and it’s never worked out. Too much history against it.

Plus, y’know, I hate to say this, but after the really touching goodbye ceremonies they did for Modano in Minnesota AND Dallas last year? The fact that he’s suddenly going back to “Well, no, I may play one or two more years after all” just seems crass. Retire, Mike. Retire and go out on a good note.

Ah, you mean the Brett Favre syndrome? I lost ALL respect for that guy after the whole retirement/non-retirement bs.

also remember that if they would go after Mo expectations of him won;t be nearly as high as say Fedorov or even peca. you sign him to center the 4th line it would be a good pick up. not like Fedorov where they were expecting him to be a number 1 center. or peca who was expected to be a selke finalist again..

He might be asking too much in his contract. Plus, I think the team is trying to get younger(obviously the claiming of Moreau is a contridiction to that, seeing as he is 34) given the core players on this team, and adding a few veteran pieces around them.

All the respect in the world to Modano, but a 40 year old 2nd line center isn’t what we need. It would completely change the dynamic of the team from the 2nd line, down.

I believe he has said that he wants to go to a playoff contender team. I don’t think we fit that description.
