Jackets Game 81 Preview: Jackets / Wings Game 2

In part two of the staggered late season series against the Red Wings, Detroit again plays host. The Red Wings prevailed in "Game One", on a controversial goal by Bertuzzi. The Wings have already clinched a playoff spot, but are still playing for seeding so they likely won't roll over tonight.

The Jackets are running with five AHLers tonight at forward. Chad Kolarik, Mike Blunden, Greg Moore, Tom Sestito and Tomas Kana are all playing tonight. I am going to enjoy watching these guys play tonight, it will give a glimpse into what these players could potentially bring to the lineup next season.

Mase gets the start tonight, facing Jimmy Howard.

Star-divide

From the Columbus Dispatch:

The Jackets - or what is left of them - make their second trip to Detroit in a week. They left Joe Louis Arena a sour bunch Thursday, believing the winning goal by Detroit's Todd Bertuzzi was kicked into the net. This will mark the first time since 1991 that the Red Wings won't open the Stanley Cup playoffs on home ice.

For the record...

I hate Detroit!!! Even more than Detroit, I hate Todd Bertuzzi. It used to be that I hated Detroit but could respect them as an organization. When they signed that bum I lost all respect for them. Someone should put him on his ass.

This is pathetic… We carried the play for the whole game and the horrible officiating gives them power play after power play. Of course they are going to score on us when we’re shorthanded… frustrating.

And yet the Jackets have now quietly slipped into 26th place in the league, lining us up for a lottery pick. To be quite honest, I think this whole season would be a complete complete waste (yes, double complete) without a lottery pick.

Given some better goaltending and Hitch being gone sooner, we would have been in the playoffs. Let’s try to get a great NHL-ready player and go to town is essentially the same team next year. Better that than getting some player in the bottom half of the top 10.

I swear, if we pull another stunt like taking Brule over Kopitar at the last minute because of no reason at all, I quit.
