Derick Brassard
Hello! I'm a Blue Jacket fan living in San Jose. I don't get to watch a ton of Jackets games, but I was wondering what you guys think of Derick Brassard? I've followed him pretty closely since he broke into the NHL, but I wanted to know what Blue Jackets fans in Ohio think his career potential is??? (i.e. franchise player? first line center? second line center?) I know he hasn't had a great season this year, (I think he has 35 points, -15 rating as of today) but do you think he can put up 80 pts consistantly one he really hits his prime? Lastly, what NHL player would you most compare him to? I already received my Brassard and Voracek sherseys in the mail...go Jacket in 2010-2011!!!
Thanks,
Vondy

This year you could kinda throw out since he missed almost all of last year
This year was mostly spent getting him back into playing shape and getting a rapour with the guy he would be on a line with and getting fully settled in to the grind that is a full NHL season. bu next year he should be much better
Players who should be in the Hall of Fame: Pat TIllman, Dwight White, Donnie Shell, L.C. Greenwood, Ray Guy, Steve Tasker, Greg Llyod, Andy Russel, Cris Carter, Kevin Greene and Jerry Kramer

At the very least, a top 2 center. Depending on how hard he brings it in camp, he could end up a #1 but he’d have to out-play Vermette. Not saying it can’t be done, but Vermette has played far and away above expectations.

Like WV says, this year was dedicated to getting Brass back on track. He has shown recently that he is rounding into form while playing with Voracek and Umby. At the end of the day though I believe the Jackets envision him riding shotgun to Nash, but I can see him staying paired with Jake if Howson and the scouts go for a center with the first round pick this year. Vermette could stay as the top line center until the new kid is ready (if not Hall or Seguin, I’m hoping for Riley Sheehan) At that point Vermette could slide down to third line center.
Finding a comparable for Brass is difficult for me. When he was drafted folks were comparing him to Danny Briere, but I’m not so sure that’s still relevant.
