Making History - Blue Jackets Milestones

In terms of the sporting world, players production, star power, ability, favoritism are all based on one thing: statistics. In the modern era of sports, there is a stat for just about anything you can imagine. Its borderline insane. Depending on your production as an athlete, over time you reach special milestones.

Although this season has been an overall bust, the Jackets themselves have done quite well. Guys like Kris Russell, Anton Stralman, Derek Dorsett, Jakub Voracek, and Antoine Vermette are having the best seasons of their careers. All stats are in terms of their entire careers, not just their time with the CBJ (unless they're a CBJ "lifer" of course).

I've broken this up into 3 groups; defensemen, forwards, and goalies. I've picked some important stats such as goals, assists, points and some you wouldn't look at right away like PIM, SOG and GP. For the goalies I've chosen to look at games played/started, wins, losses, overall minutes played, and career saves, among others. I think its important for us to know that while the team hasn't played well, these guys are making huge strides and are building hope for the future.

For all you stat and number geeks out there, this should be a good read!

So What does it all mean? Things to take away:

Gar - started his 200th career game, won his 100th. Gar suffered his 90th loss and is 2 OTLs from setting a new record (5). He gave up his 600th career goal, and faced his 6000th shot. Needs 3 SOs to reach 5, a new personal best.

Mase - Played and started in career game 100. Recorded his 30th and 40th career wins, but suffered career losses 30 and 40. Lost his 10th game in OT and his 8 this year are most in his 2-year career. Gave up goal #200 and is 5 away from giving up 300. He can face a new career high shot total if he faces 141 more. Can make career save 3000 with 119 more.

Goalie of the year: Steve Mason

So What does it all mean? Things to take away:

Boller - Played in his 200th career game, and is so close to setting new records in goals, points and shots.

Brass - Can set a personal best in goals with 3 (has 8), set a new single season record in all categories, which can be attributed to his health this season.

Clark - Clark can reach 100 career goals with two more, and 200 career points with one more. Reached 100 career assists this season, he also played in his 500th career game with Washington.

Dorsett - With one goal, he can reach a new career high with 5, with two he can hit the 10-goal mark for his career. His assist totals are both career bests. He has more than doubled his point total from his rookie season. Dorse also served his 200th career PIM this year. I see him having a big year next year.

Juice - Topped the 20-goal mark for the 6th time. He can set a new high with 5 more assists. Scored his 400th career point and played in his 600th game.

Murrdawg - Murray is close to establishing records in goals, assists, points and PIM for the season and his career.

Nasher - Scored his 200th goal, 400th point, and played in his 500th game. He reached the 30-goal/30-assist plateau for the third straight year

RJ - Umby is close to his 100th goal and can set a personal best with 6 more (21). He can tie his record for GP in a season, if he plays in the remaining 5 games.

Vermette - Scored his 100th goal, netted his 20th, and with his 25th set a new personal record. Antoine scored his 200th point and his 63 this year is his top mark. Like RJ, he can tie his GP in a season with 82.

Jake - He has passed the 20-goal mark, and 10-goal mark this season. Jake set season highs in goals, assists, points and SOG.

Forward of the year: Jakub Voracek

There you have it. Does your brain hurt? I want to know who you guys think have been the break out players on the team - pick one at each position. Like I mentioned, in a season where the team didn't end up where it needed to, the individuals made strides in their game. If things return to normal, next year will be the best season in this franchise's young history.
