Game 74 Open Thread: Jackets vs. Blackhawks

Chicago Blackhawks at Columbus Blue Jackets, Mar 25, 2010 7:00 PM EDT

A victory tonight for the Jackets would be nothing more than a moral one, but it would go a long way in building confidence in the young players. Derick Brassard and especially Jake Voracek have looked great lately, for them to lead the way in a victory against one of the top teams in the league is nothing but a bonus. There is that other elephant in the room however, the elephant that says that the more the Jackets win down this meaningless stretch, the further away from a lottery pick they are.

Not that anyone follows these game threads anymore, but holy cow. I did not expect this, and I guess this kind of game furthers the idea that the Hawks have some terrible goaltending. At any rate, nice work so through 2 periods.

I would really like it if we had consistent banter back and forth in my game threads. I really would. I guess we’re one of those teams that needs to be winning.

I would have been on here but I was at the game. I don’t get it.. how do we win big against a team like the Hawks and can’t muster anything against teams we should beat? Anyway, it was awesome to see us spank the Hawks.

Maybe those teams have good goal tending

but nothing like a putting a good old fashion ass stomping a division rival

That does happen on occasion but what I saw last night that I haven’t seen in other games this season is the effort. You and I both know that the effort isn’t always there. I’ll give you this, since Noel took over there seems to be a different level of effort being given. Not dogging Hitch but maybe Noel’s coaching style just suits this team better. Either way, I hope we whip the Isles like this tomorrow I’ll be at that game too.

Where were you sitting? I was there to. My girlfriend got tickets from her boss at about 330 yesterday. Damn good time.

I was in 112 just to the left of the cannon, with my wife and two kids. I can barely speak today from screaming so much.

Part of me wants to see the high draft pick, but after a big win like tonight, it sure feels damn good. I get excited for every goal that’s scored, so to cheer eight times- that’s just phenomenal. Our forwards have put up awesome points. Juice, Vermy, Umberger- all having great years. Just imagine what kind of record the team would have if Nash was putting up 80+ points like he is capable of, and Brass was scoring at the rate he was last year before the injury. Jake is on the right path….what this team needs at the end of the day is offense from the blueliners, a touch more offense from the bottom six, and consistent goaltending. With maturity, Mase will offer that. Brass and Jake are close. We need to bring guys like Calvert into the lineup to score from the bottom two lines, and need to revamp the defense (or at least the way its coached) to allow for more goals from the back end.
