Shrapnel - 2/2 Edition

In this edition of Shrapnel: Looking at tonight's lineups, Commie, Torres, shootouts, Commissioner Bettman, Power Rankings, and more!

And away we go!

Star-divide

BlueJackets XTRA:

Probable lineups for tonight:

CBJ

Colorado

Mike Commodore's struggles this year have been well documented. Add another leg injury to the laundry list. He's out at least for tonight.

As usual, nothing is confirmed but its pretty safe to say that Raffi Torres will be traded by the deadline. I still think it'll be a mistake, considering we don't know what will happen with the Filatov situation.

-

Puck-rakers:

Early morning report from Colorado. Good to see Stralman, and Juice back in the lineup.

-

Four-Check:

The shootout has come under fire for being, well, worthless. What do you think about it? How would you replace it?

-

Yahoo! Sports:

Headlines from around the hockey world.

A look at Team USA's defensive unit going into the Olympics.

Puck Daddy made the trek to Russia to talk with some of the all time greats in Gretzky, Yashin, and Jagr.

The Oilers finally broke out of their awful slump. They stopped an 0-11-3 skid by beating up on the poor Hurricanes.

-

SB Nation:

Commissioner Gary Bettman has been in the league for 17 years, and these are the things he'll be remembered for.

-

Power Rankings:

Fox Sports - 27th

ESPN - 25th

CBS Sports - 28th

Columbus Dispatch - 26th

TSN - 28th

-

Quote of the day:

"To be honest, I have to stop thinking about (a contract extension) and just worry about what's happening on the ice. I don't feel like I've been playing my best hockey for the last couple of weeks or so."

- Raffi Torres

Get rid of the shootout

The new format should be:

5-on-5 for 10 minutes
4-on-4 for 5
3-on-3 for 5

And none of this sudden death BS. Game ends when the 10, 5 or 5 period ends. Points should go out like this:

Win in reg: 3 points
Loss in reg: 0 points
Win in OT: 2 points
Loss is OT: 0 point
Tie: 1 point

Its not perfect, but the shootout needs to go.

Columbus til I die, Columbus til I die. I know I am, I swear I am, Columbus til I die!

Damn it feels good to be a Buckeye!
