NHL Power Rankings - Columbus Making Moves
The Power Rankings are now out. Keep in mind they were posted within the last day or two so they don't reflect the current record of the league.
Most writers are starting to take notice. The Blue Jackets are a team to be reckoned with! The majority of these pieces have Columbus in their top 10!!!
To this point, SB Nation and Yahoo! Sports haven't released their newest rankings, we'll skip those for now. When (if) they become available, I'll keep you guys updated!
GO JACKETS!!!
ESPN - 8th out of 30 (Last week: 16th, updated 11/8/10)
"The Blue Jackets are full value for a top-10 ranking this week, as they've won seven of their past 10 games. Not sure how long they can keep this up, but good for rookie coach Scott Arniel for getting more out of this squad than many anticipated. Mathieu Garon has been terrific in goal."
CBS Sports - 11th out of 30 (Last week: 28th, updated 11/8/10)
"Much better on the road than at home so far, although Derrick Brassard's seven-game point streak cuts across geography."
TSN - 17th out of 30 (Last week: 25th, updated 11/8/10)
"G Mathieu Garon appears to have nudged Steve Mason aside, starting three straight games, but it's understandable when Garon has stopped 95.1% of shots faced this season.
Key Injuries: LW Kristian Huselius (lower body)."
The Dispatch - 11th out of 30 (Last week:16th, updated 11/8/10)
"Until the Blue Jackets' top offensive talents get going -- we're talking to you, Rick Nash and Antoine Vermette -- it's going to be a bumpy ride."
The Hockey News - 8th out of 30 (Last week: 10th, updated 11/11/10)
"Jackets are super-tight defensively, thanks in no small part to MVP-type play from Mathieu Garon (1.28 GAA, .951 save percentage)"
Fox Sports - 8 out of 30 (Last week: 11th, updated 11/9/10)
"(.615) Mathieu Garon backstopped Columbus into the top 10 in the rankings by pitching shutouts in two of his three starts last week. Garon turned away all 54 shots he faced in wins over Montreal and Atlanta."
The Bleacher Report - 7th out of 30 (updated 11/11/10)
"So the leader in GAA isn’t Tim Thomas right now. It’s actually Mathieu Garon at 1.28."
Blue Jackets Fan Confidence Poll
Last tallied on 11/10.

Next week should be exciting. With the shit stomping that was Wednesday night, plus good games against Colorado, LA, and Anaheim, the Jackets can not only jump up in the power rankings, but to the top of the conference!

The West Coast trip is going to be key – Anaheim suddenly looks good again and San Jose won’t stay down forever. If they can get four points out of that trip, all the sudden this team looks real.

It would be interesting to see what these rankings would all have looked like had they come out on 11/10 instead of a lot of them coming out on 11/8.
This trip is kind of a monster. Anaheim looks good all of a sudden (I never thought 10 days ago that I’d actually want to play Nashville and Chicago right now, but I digress) and we never seem to be able to bring it home in LA and San Jose despite good efforts. And, I’d be lying if I said a lineup with Blunden and Murray playing tonight with Wilson (though I like him) and Dorse as our top-two LWs instills a ton of confidence against the Avs tonight…
In summary: I have no [bleep]ing idea what to think about this team right now.
I’m sure if the STL game was taken into account, some of these rankings would be a little higher. Dismantling the top team in the league, making them look stupid, would change people’s minds.

…Welcome to the club, Dan! :)
That said, hell, I don’t know. I think if Nash is good to go on Wednesday (and it seems like he will be), we ought to be able to give a decent accounting of ourselves. But, let’s see what we get tonight before we do anything else.
