Forward Together: Support Your Blue Jackets
A rare post by me, but I just wanted to pass along a note we received recently in our inbox.
As the work continues to find a fix for the Blue Jackets financial situation regarding Nationwide Arena, a group of dedicated fans has created Forward Together, in effort to support our team and the Arena District.
Please take a moment to stop by their site and sign the petition. Also pass along the link on Twitter, Facebook, and to your friends and family through email.
While we're at it, I would like to thank all of you who support The Cannon. We appreciate every comment you make and every second you take out of your day to support our blog. I can only imagine how much it means to the Blue Jackets organization, players, coaches, and their families that we are all behind them.
As always, Go Jackets!

People don't realize
That this is more than just about the hockey team. At least that’s the way it was when I left Columbus, I’m not really sure if sentiment has changed any with the added attention from the playoff berth and the things that went on this summer. With the way the sin tax ugliness went I’m guessing not much. The general opinion seems to be that… “Why should I pay more so they make millions”
Getting rid of the Blue Jackets would be like pulling out the stopper on a full bathtub. I shudder to think. It won’t be easy to win over the unenlightened masses… (Just ask any school district in central Ohio thats tried to pass a school levy in the last 30 years) But we don’t have the luxury of time to make this right like the schools.. The owners of this team didn’t become millionaires by sitting on things that lost them twelve million dollars a year.

Jackets woes
The Jackets are where they are at their own doing. While other teams have built their team through the draft Columbus keeps missing bad on their draft. We’re stupid enough to believe what management tells us! They spend no money to get the high priced free agents and limp along with what they can scrape from the scrap heap. Rick Nash blew it by resigning when he should have got out of Dodge. I think Hitchcock is not the answer. His teams seem unmotivated and easily discouraged. Their mottto should come from the movie Field of Dreams “.If you build it ( A team woth spending money to see) they ( the fans) will come.” Columbus people are not going to waste their money on a “Loser” Face it, we come up short on all aspects.Just my opinion.
well someone is riding the negativity train
sometimes you can’t get the big time free agents because, well, they don’t want to come here or we are trying to build through the draft and we don’t want to have big contracts to fill up the cap space. Look at the Pittsburgh Steelers, who I am a fan of, they don’t spend alot of money on free agents and are winners year in and year out because they have organzational stability and build through the draft. Just my opinion
Players who should be in the Hall of Fame: DIck Lebeau, Pat TIllman, Dwight White, Donnie Shell, L.C. Greenwood, Ray Guy, Steve Tasker, Greg Llyod, Andy Russel, Cris Carter, Kevin Greene and Jerry Kramer

Yes and No
While I really agree that Hitch may not be the right answer, that sort of thinking does not apply to the Jackets organization/the team itself.
Frustration at this year (the only one to come off a playoff appearance) is understandable, but to completely abandon this young, talent-filled team is silly. Rick Nash resigning is perhaps the biggest reason to stay with the Jackets. If a player of that caliber has decided to make this place his home, clearly the organization is doing something right. If anything else, we’ve got Nash for the next 8-ish years.
Also, it’s worth noting that this is NHL hockey. Even if they’re the worst team in the league (or maybe the most heartbreaking) the pro hockey is something special. Get past this mediocre season and watch the team string together a few good years. Quite suddenly the population around Columbus will get a fuller taste of hockey.
We needn’t be super-flashy or completely overthrow our organization to get on the right path again. Maybe firing Hitch would be the right choice, but given that it has only taken half a season for people to get disgusted with a losing CBJ, I think a bit of self-reflection is needed. Be grateful there is a team, and support them if you want them to stick around!
Stevio...
While I respect your ability to form your own opinion, this is not really the time nor place for such a comment.
If you or anyone else wishes to no longer support this team based on whatever reasoning you choose, that is up to you.
This post is asking for people to support their team, what it means to the city of Columbus, and to support a fix to keep what we all love.
It’s not about drafting, Ken Hitchcock, Nikita Filatov, Stinger, or anything else. There is a time and place for each of those discussions, and if you wish to continue such a discussion, I encourage you to start a fan post on any of the subjects you mention.

Bad time to be asking for people to shell out more taxes
Isn’t that really the only solution at this point – a tax levy for the voters to approve the subsidizing of the lease and/or assume ownership of the arena? People wouldn’t even vote to build the arena back in 2000 when the economy was humming along. It’s going to be a very difficult task to pry more tax money out of the public considering the economic environment now.
I agree 100% that the CBJ organization is vital to the community, the downtown area, and especially youth hockey in Ohio. I have a child that plays, and the cultural change that has taken place since the CBJ came to town is remarkable with regard to youth hockey. Would hate to lose this team. It really is a privilege to have the opportunity to experience NHL hockey in our town. At the same time, I understand the perspective of folks like stevio, who are asking – why should it take 10+ years to develop a winning franchise? All the other expansion clubs added in the last 10 or so years are far outpacing the BJs in terms of playoff appearances with exception of Atlanta, and we all know how precarious their situation is.
