In this edition of Shrapnel: Just another day in the life of Mase, goalie masks, Detroit's manlove, and more!

And away we go!

Star-divide

BlueJackets XTRA:

Steve Mason has been down on himself a lot lately. Anyone have a cure for his problems? Will this poor play go on longer than a sophomore slump?

-

Puck-rakers:

There were a handful of scouts from other teams in attendance last night. The trade deadline is March 3.

-

Yahoo! Sports:

Puck Daddy's Three Stars. Make sure you check out the video at the bottom to see a pretty slick goal from the Philly/Atlanta game.

Speaking of slick, check out this ballsy save from Thrashers G Johan Hedberg. If Mase or Gar ever do something like that, I think we might have to send them to the minors.

The blood of Blueshirts fans is boiling these days. Man, am I glad we don't call for management to get the ax, coaches on the other hand...

The art of the goalie mask. Two Olympian goalies have their masks ready to go for the games in Vancouver, and they look awesome!

-

SBNation.com:

Detroit is coming awfully close to missing the playoffs in a long, long time. Its time we all have a good laugh at their expense. I recommend we start with this.

Things aren't looking so good up in Calgary. In case you haven't noticed, the Flames have lost 9 of their last 10 games, and have dropped to 8th in the West. In addition, things could've gotten really bad for Rene Bourque. There's this rule that says players are required to drop a stick that has been broken during play. Bourque decided not to follow that rule and things got scary.

-

Quote of the day:

"This is painful. We heard the boos, and rightfully so."

- R.J. Umberger's take on last night's "game".

Fight of the night:

Thrashers RW Chris Thorburn v. Flyers RW Arron Asham*

*Fight wins "Fight of the night" by default for being the only scrap from last night's action.
