Game 52 Open Thread: Jackets vs. Flyers (HAITI DONATION #1)
Columbus Blue Jackets at Philadelphia Flyers, Jan 19, 2010 7:00 PM EST
The Flyers have some bruisers, and Columbus plays a tough style- this could lead to some serious fireworks. At any rate it should be an entertaining game. The Jackets needs to build off of their victory last night and really set the tone against Philly. As long as the top two lines continue to score, and the defense can stay air-tight, this is a winnable game.

Good luck!
As a Pens fan (with a Blue Jackets fan for a roommate) good luck tonight! Would love to see Columbus kill Philly.
Tonight, I think we’re all BlueJackets fans…because the flyers suck.

I’m doing a little research on how many teams fans hate the Flyers. Which teams can i add to the list now?
I am hoping its 29 teams and all of their fan bases haha!

Jurcina in or out?
Dispatch is sayin that Tyutin and Stralman are the third defensive pairing… Those two should not be allowed on the ice together… Whether I would sit stralman or tyutin, now that’s a tough one. I would have to go with Tyutin, as punishment for that half ass play on Saturday against the hawks that directly contributed to a Kane assisted tap in by Brouwer for their second goal. If you want to see an play that sums up Tyutin’s season, check out that replay. Embarrassing
The most recent pairings I’ve seen are:
Roy-Hejda
Russell-Methot
Tyutin-Stralman

I’ve played as the Blue Jackets quite a few times but I feel the defense is REALLY slow. Like, slower than I remember Rathje was in 09
It made me happy to see Chris Clark score against the Blues! Hoping that Clarkie and Juice are doing good for you guys, because Chimera’s fitting in quite nicely over here.

I hate the Devils but how much longer do we have to deal with Brodeur? Malkin and Crosby will be around for a long time. So my Penguins hate is greater.
The occasional articles about how players like Malkin, Crosby and Ovechkin won’t be able to keep it up for more than a few more years are heartwarming (is that mean?).
Yeah when I was first getting into hockey, the devils were the team we couldn’t beat. ever. no matter what. and then a few years later they ended lindros forever. the only reason i can’t muster up the same hate for them as i can for the pens is because stevens retired. also the rangers i’ve always had a distaste for, but it’s never approached the epic levels of hate that i have for the devils, pens, mets, giants and cowboys

Does Emery’s stance remind anyone of Jeff Deslauriers’? Maybe that’s just because they’re both tall.
That is not a comparison I ever want to see again.
But seriously, how many people (non-western conference guys) actually know who Jeff Deslauriers is, let alone what his stance looks like?

I’ve always been a fan of International play but never really any club soccer, European or MLS until now with the Union.
I guess that’s how much of a club homer I am….lol.
Fire Andy Reid - From horrible clock management to wasted timeouts to using the pass to set up the pass, he is one of the worst gameday coaches in the league.
And the Union front office seems to be top-notch. JP Dellacamera as the local play-by-play guy? And apparently there’s a good chance every game will be broadcast on an OTA station? Nowak is great, his staff is great … it’s weird to see a local front office this well-run (so far, anyway — plenty of opportunity going forward to screw things up).
I hope every game is on CSN. That’ll be key. If they can get CSN talking about Union soccer throughout the summer and they have a good first season (and by all accounts, they have a good team on paper), the popularity will take off.

It’s not like the fall, though, when all four teams are playing.
I think people can follow two teams at once, especially when there aren’t that many games in an MLS season. Just don’t schedule games to coincide with the Phils.

well i mean the phils play every night (mostly. obviously there are afternoon games and west coast trips and the occasionaly day off, but yeah. mostly every night.). they’re hard to avoid.
Exactly my thought. Basically someone other than CSN has to televise most of the games. Then again, Ben alrready said that NBC10 and CBS3 are interested. That would be great!

And, with the Sons of Ben (the supported group) we already have an incredible rep as fan followings go, around the league and our team hasn’t even played a game yet. Did you see the support the Union had at the MLS Superdraft? Amazing!

well
Weber infinitely > Coburn
Suter infinitely > Coburn
Hamhuis, Klein, and Bouillon are moderately better, and Franson has much more offensive punch.
So yeah, probably not. Of course, we have (speaking objectively of course) one of the best d-corps in the league.

I remember listening to a Yankees game with my dad as a kid and they gave away the Old Leather catch of the game in the 2nd inning and I thought, that was not showing lots of foresight…sure enough, they had to revoke it and give it to a catch in the 5th that was much better…

Isn’t it weird how prevalent the term “Flyers hockey” is? Like, Gregg Murphy just said “we’re talking a little Flyers hockey.” “Phillies baseball” is also widespread, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard “Sixers basketball” or “Eagles football” like that.
Because no one likes basketball and eagles football gets pushed back far into our memories. Also, eagles football hasnt done it in over 40 years

Best Way to Watch Basketball
Wait for the last 2 minutes…unless it’s the Sixers….get a bugle and play Taps.
Really? I think he is awesome actually. Problem is, they took Jrue Holiday last year and getting John Wall would make no sense as both Wall and Holiday are PG’s who need the ball in their hand. Having two guys like that trying to run the offense clearly does not work…look at Brandon Roy and Andre Miller in Portland.
Just got here and wanna make a post to contribute a little.

How big does that Lappy fight look now?
by You don't have to be sweet, to be good on Jan 19, 2010 8:49 PM EST reply actions
no doubt. i hate that the only times fights really get mentions for turning games is when we’re up by 3 goals, carcillo wins a fight, and the pens score 3 unanswered and for some reason it was carcillo getting the crowd even wilder that cost us momentum
i have never understood that. Carcillo smashed Talbot from what I remember, yet that rallied the Penguins? The crowd went nuts when Carcillo dropped him. Maybe if Carcillo got wrecked, then maybe I’d understand it, but as it is I really don’t.
what i loved was that people bought it. because eddie said it (over and over and over), people actually believed it was true, when it so obviously made no sense. oh well, old news, that just has stuck in my craw since that day (among other things that upset me that day…)
Yep, I wrote literally the exact same thing when that happened.
