Game 52 Open Thread: Jackets vs. Flyers (HAITI DONATION #1)

Columbus Blue Jackets at Philadelphia Flyers, Jan 19, 2010 7:00 PM EST

The Flyers have some bruisers, and Columbus plays a tough style- this could lead to some serious fireworks. At any rate it should be an entertaining game. The Jackets needs to build off of their victory last night and really set the tone against Philly. As long as the top two lines continue to score, and the defense can stay air-tight, this is a winnable game.

Good luck!

As a Pens fan (with a Blue Jackets fan for a roommate) good luck tonight! Would love to see Columbus kill Philly.

Tonight, I think we’re all BlueJackets fans…because the flyers suck.

Jurcina in or out?

Dispatch is sayin that Tyutin and Stralman are the third defensive pairing… Those two should not be allowed on the ice together… Whether I would sit stralman or tyutin, now that’s a tough one. I would have to go with Tyutin, as punishment for that half ass play on Saturday against the hawks that directly contributed to a Kane assisted tap in by Brouwer for their second goal. If you want to see an play that sums up Tyutin’s season, check out that replay. Embarrassing

I’ve played as the Blue Jackets quite a few times but I feel the defense is REALLY slow. Like, slower than I remember Rathje was in 09

Just won a cup with the Jackets in my BAGM. Same team but with Hudler and Brendl. Lead the west in points and went a ridiculous 16-3 in the playoffs. Doesn’t help that Mason is good in the game as well.

by j reed on Jan 19, 2010 8:00 PM EST up reply actions

Wear and tear for Crosby and Malkin — Gretzky had something similar happen. It’s not like they’re going to become bad or even average — they’ll still be great players for years — but not like this.

As for Ovechkin, just the style he plays doesn’t warrant itself to long-term health.

by Ben Feldman on Jan 19, 2010 8:02 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah when I was first getting into hockey, the devils were the team we couldn’t beat. ever. no matter what. and then a few years later they ended lindros forever. the only reason i can’t muster up the same hate for them as i can for the pens is because stevens retired. also the rangers i’ve always had a distaste for, but it’s never approached the epic levels of hate that i have for the devils, pens, mets, giants and cowboys

And the Union front office seems to be top-notch. JP Dellacamera as the local play-by-play guy? And apparently there’s a good chance every game will be broadcast on an OTA station? Nowak is great, his staff is great … it’s weird to see a local front office this well-run (so far, anyway — plenty of opportunity going forward to screw things up).

by Ben Feldman on Jan 19, 2010 8:48 PM EST up reply actions

lol, I’m apparently 10-20 seconds ahead somehow… Or else I have reflexes like Julie the Cat Gaffney:

very awesome. much more reassuring, knowing how we like to take ten minute segments of the game off, having a two goal lead going into the third rather than just one.

Isn’t it weird how prevalent the term “Flyers hockey” is? Like, Gregg Murphy just said “we’re talking a little Flyers hockey.” “Phillies baseball” is also widespread, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard “Sixers basketball” or “Eagles football” like that.

by Ben Feldman on Jan 19, 2010 8:44 PM EST reply actions

Because no one likes basketball and eagles football gets pushed back far into our memories. Also, eagles football hasnt done it in over 40 years

Best Way to Watch Basketball

Wait for the last 2 minutes…unless it’s the Sixers….get a bugle and play Taps.

by j reed on Jan 19, 2010 9:07 PM EST up reply actions

Really? I think he is awesome actually. Problem is, they took Jrue Holiday last year and getting John Wall would make no sense as both Wall and Holiday are PG’s who need the ball in their hand. Having two guys like that trying to run the offense clearly does not work…look at Brandon Roy and Andre Miller in Portland.

How big does that Lappy fight look now?

by You don't have to be sweet, to be good on Jan 19, 2010 8:49 PM EST reply actions

no doubt. i hate that the only times fights really get mentions for turning games is when we’re up by 3 goals, carcillo wins a fight, and the pens score 3 unanswered and for some reason it was carcillo getting the crowd even wilder that cost us momentum

by eeeeee on Jan 19, 2010 8:52 PM EST up reply actions

I still have not figured out where Eddie O came up with that one….

Fire Andy Reid - From horrible clock management to wasted timeouts to using the pass to set up the pass, he is one of the worst gameday coaches in the league.

by Justin F. on Jan 19, 2010 8:54 PM EST up reply actions

i have never understood that. Carcillo smashed Talbot from what I remember, yet that rallied the Penguins? The crowd went nuts when Carcillo dropped him. Maybe if Carcillo got wrecked, then maybe I’d understand it, but as it is I really don’t.

by edbro on Jan 19, 2010 8:58 PM EST up reply actions

what i loved was that people bought it. because eddie said it (over and over and over), people actually believed it was true, when it so obviously made no sense. oh well, old news, that just has stuck in my craw since that day (among other things that upset me that day…)
