Shrapnel - 1/19 Edition

Thats what I call a damn good hockey game. I really got the feeling of "here we go again" after the early goal by Paul Kariya. After that, the Jackets took over. Raffi Torres tied it up, then scored the go ahead goal to round out the 1st period. Hey Howson, hows that Torres extension coming?

Nasher lit the lamp again and we finally got to see the first goal from Chris Clark. These were all good things.

The other good things were seeing Derek Dorsett sporting the "A" on his chest. This just proves that its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. I said it over in the game thread, I hope he wears that for a long time. Garon played a pretty good game, and I saw Kris Russell everywhere. The kid is a trooper, keep it up!

Lets get down to business.

And away we go!

Puck-rakers:

Game recap and more from Michael Arace. Look at this stat: "The Jackets improved to 19-3-2 when Torres scores a goal." Top line anyone? I may be getting ahead of myself here, but thats a pretty good sample size.

More on Scrappy Doo wearing the "A."

BlueJackets XTRA:

Arace's take on Torres and the possibility of moving him. I understand when you're losing the tendency is to move some players that are performing well because their value is high. I think not resigning Raff will be a mistake by management. It'll be the first time I really question Howson and how he's running things.

Umby is gearing up for his return to Philly. He says he'll be excited, regardless of the ovation or boos he receives. We're also going to see an old friend in Ole-Kristian Tollefsen, who made his return from injury last Thursday.

Probable lineups for tonight:

CBJ

Philadelphia

Jackets chat tomorrow. I figure I'd give a heads up a day in advance as opposed to an hour. Way to go, genius.

Yahoo! Sports:

I don't know what is more impressive. Calgary giving up 9 goals, or eight different Sharks scoring in their rout over the Flames.

We often call players by their nicknames; Nasher, Brass, Commie, Rusty, Clarkie, Umby. We never talk about line nicknames though. The Jackets once had "The Speed Team" which consisted of Jason Chimera, Manny Malhotra, and Dan Fritsche. Lets start coming up with some new ones! I've noticed the use of player names (The S-Mac-K Line of Teemu Selanne, Andy McDonald, and Chris Kunitz from 2007) or certain characteristics a la the Speed Team. Get your thinking caps on...and...GO!

Power Rankings:

TSN - 28th

Columbus Dispatch - 27th

SB Nation - Unranked (SB is only ranking the top 16...weird bunch, those guys.)

ESPN - 27th

Quote of the day:

"Nothing is going to change because I have a letter on my jersey. My game and my personality will be just the same. It's just an honor to be part of that group."

- Derek Dorsett on receiving that alternate A for last night's game.

Fight of the night:

Not the most flashy, or exciting fight in the world, but a decent one between Calgary's F Brandon Prust and San Jose's D Brad Staubitz.

What about the Heart and Hustle line of Dorsett, Boll and Pahlsen

and I will say this again I believe that Dorsett is the Heart and Soul of this team

Players who should be in the Hall of Fame: DIck Lebeau, Pat TIllman, Dwight White, Donnie Shell, L.C. Greenwood, Ray Guy, Steve Tasker, Greg Llyod, Andy Russel, Cris Carter, Kevin Greene and Jerry Kramer
"If you give Arians a fullback, he won’t use one. Instead, he insists on using Matt Spaeth, who probably doesn’t cast a shadow because it would require blocking sunlight." steelin with some very true words

Gotta Give it up for Pahlsson recently

He’s really been picking it up lately. I love how he went after Oshie after he got that high stick that wasn’t called… Oshie deserves a good ass whoopin’

Boller – Picard – Scrappy Doo or
Boller – Scrappy Doo – Raff

The Carpenter line – because they’re all tough as nails…or
The Bricklayers – because they hit hard.

Columbus til I die, Columbus til I die. I know I am, I swear I am, Columbus til I die!

Damn it feels good to be a Buckeye!

I think it should be specific to the Boller – Scrappy Doo – Raff line since Pic is back in Syracuse.
