Jinxed, for the best- Manny signs with Sharks

Malhotra-manny-get090105_medium

Recently I was asked to help out fellow blogger Jon Willis, he of Copper and Blue and Hockey or Die fame. He wanted some info regarding why Manny Malhotra hadn't been signed yet. You can find that blog post here. Now this morning, we are hearing that Manny has signed with the Sharks.

It's great to see Manny land on his feet with an NHL team, he will fit in great with the Sharks, giving them help on the PK and will be a go-to player for them when they need to win a crucial faceoff.

Best of luck Manny!

Good luck Manny

We’ll get to see him early, on Oct. 8 when we play in San Jose. Our first chance to see him live is Nov. 4 at Nationwide. Hope he gets a warm welcome back.

Sad to see him go

While he was never a star player, he was always one of my favorite Blue Jackets. Perhaps, I’m biased because I used to wear the #27, but Manny was always hustling, even during the saddest of Jackets games, and he was always a great face for the team. His face-off skills will be missed as well.

Face-off skills

I agree they’ll be missed, but I think Vermette will be the go to for any crucial face-offs now. He finished the season 6th overall in face-off win , just .3 behind Manny (4th place).

This raises another question

With Manny leaving town, who will replace him as the team’s rep to the NHLPA?

That will be something that’s decided once the team starts having player meetings.

Likely a bit of a veteran, but probably someone they know will be with the team for awhile (so not Modin). Maybe Umberger, Vermette, Chimera… not sure what they really look for.

Good luck in San Jose, Manny.
