Mr. Canada

Is Rick Nash the next great Mr. Canada?

Although Toronto Maple Leafs fans won't be getting the front seat view of Rick Nash in action they had hoped, he'll still be representing all of Canada in the 2010 Olympics. Is the Columbus captain poised to become the next great Canadian legend? You decide.

I’ll reserve that title for Captain Columbus. ;)

In all seriousness, I know Smyth was always referred to as “Captain Canada,” I was just going off what they were referring to him as in the NHL.com piece.

Definitely in the future

I think there are only a couple players ahead of Rick, like Crosby. But by the time his new contract is over, I really believe he will be one of the most elite players that is sought after by every team. I can’t express how happy I am that Rick will be a Jacket for a long time to come.

Could be...

…But you might wish otherwise.

Smyth gained his title by not only never turning Canada down when called, but also because he was available – and that frequently meant when other teams than his were in the NHL playoffs.

Looking at the progress Columbus has made, it won’t take much luck for the Jackets to be in the second season for years to come.

Nash is one of the few locks to make the Olympic team. And on a team as stacked as Canada, that’s pretty impressive.

Team Canada

They’re going to be tough to beat. It’s scary to think how stacked they are. Probably the favorites to win it all…

"It’s tough," Martinez said. "This is my house. This is my home."
We'll miss you, Vic
