POLL: Who Will Be Fourth Line Center?

First off, I've been working on an in-depth article on Fredrik Modin that I should have finished and posted here on the Cannon late this week, or this weekend, whenever work allows. So, check back.

Now, to the poll...

The Center position is solidfied through line three, thanks to the signing of Samuel Pahlsson, but the fourth line position is still up for grabs. There's been talk of landing a FA, moving Derek Dorsett to Center so that he and Boll can skate together, or going with a young guy like Andrew Murray or Michael Blunden, who was just re-signed.

Who do you think it will be?

I like Murray, I like Dorsett but I don’t know if I like him at center. If I could make a suggestion; resign Manny for a little more than he was making with his last contract, and let he and Pahlsson play on both 3rd and 4th lines. Hitch likes to change it up from time to time so they could get equal playing time on both lines. We would easily be incredibly strong at the center position.

I’m well aware that the odds of this happening are amazingly small, but I haven’t heard anything about Manny talking to any other team about a deal. He knows he would be welcomed back here in a heartbeat because everyone loves his work ethic.

With the given options though, my vote goes to Murray. He has a good jump on the position thanks to his play last year.

I'd take Manny back for the 4th line

for a reasonable price – same as he made last year. To me he is a perfect fourth line fit. We’ll see how that goes..

I’m not sure about Murray at center even though he is listed as a center everywhere I have looked. He never really plays as a center and he only took about one faceoff a game (85 in 67 games) and won at a 45.9% rate. Give him a shot in preseason, I guess.

I’m sure Derek MacKenzie will get a shot, too.

I don’t see Dorsett as a center… ever. He and Boller will be splitting time on the right wing of the 4th line, with Dorsett getting all or most of the time. This is assuming Boll makes the team out of camp. I think he has to show some improvement this year or else.

What about RJ centering the 3rd or 4th? With our glut of wingers, it is a possibility..

Jason Williams is also a possibility if he doesn’t get a job elsewhere. A Murray/Modin-JWill-Dorsett would be interesting

Manny

At first, I thought that Manny would find nothing on the market and come back at around $1.5M per, but I’m starting to see that as the slimmest of possibilities.

Atlanta has offered Manny two years at $2M per, but he is very reluctant (as are most NHLers) to play in one of those hideous blue unis.

Everything that seems to be coming out of the Jackets camp hints that they’re done with him and willing to move on, probably to one of the younger guys.

How great a checking combination would Pahlsson and Manny be, though? It’s a Ken Hitchcock wet dream.

I thought

a Ken Hitchcock wet dream consisted of 3 or 4 plus sized naked women carrying in some Arbies or something like that?

I like Manny Mo a lot (maybe get a jersey for significantly reduced price too!) but as Dan J said, I think CBJ made it clear that he asked for too much and won’t be necessary for the upcoming year. Maybe he will have a change of heart and take the loss of money to play on a very competitive and on-the-rise Jackets squad, but I doubt it (I’m thinking he is waiting for a call from Pitt to offer him a deal, call me crazy)

Murray shows some promise, same as Dorsett….Not sure what the current cap is for the Jackets but I believe we have some good wiggle room to maybe pick up someone else, I don’t even think that it needs to be a 4th line type of player. Could pick up someone else and (I use this word sparingly) demote someone like Pahlsson to the fourth, unless he makes a big splash and delivers the goods instantly. I don’t know, not as well verses as some of you guys but I love my Jackets all the same and I think we will continue to do whats right for the organization and build ourselves a winner.

Extra money

would go to a puck-moving defenseman. Just because we are under the cap doesn’t mean we have money to spend. I think we are at/near our budget for the year now.

agreed...

make a good point, if we were to buy anyone it would be a d-man with good puck handling/distributing skills.

Good poll, promoting this to the main page.

My money has been on Murray, but I’m thinking the organization really likes Blunden and he might have the inside track to winning the job.

Modin

Assuming Filatov can make the team, I’d say move Modin down a line and shift him over to center. He has the most experience, overall and playing the position, even though it may not be his strongest spot. In addition, there’d also be someone with decent hands and some scoring touch on the line who can battle in the trenches when need be. I guess I’m also assuming he finds a cure for the injury bug.
