2009-10 Blue Jackets Roster: Your thoughts
Based on the previous "What do we need most?" poll, a majority of voters feel the Blue Jackets biggest need is an offensive defenseman. Now, I want to take it a step further and start throwing out some names of players the Blue Jackets should look to acquire through free agency or trade.
Throw out as many names as you'd like. If you want to go as far as listing where you think they'd fall in the depth chart, feel free to post them. If we get some good comments, I'll feature them in the next post.
Soon I will post my thoughts on who I think would help in Columbus, as well as some player profiles of top free agents or trade targets the Blue Jackets might be interested in. Your input and suggestions will help to determine who I spend more time focusing on leading up to free agency.
Fire away!

Big Scoring Defensemen
The guy I like is Edmonton"s Sheldon Sourey, he had 24 goals and 28 something assist for the season. He is a beast, and plays real physical hard checking hockey and will drop the gloves with anyone. The only draw back is he is 34 years old. I can see a 2 year contract but the rumor has it that he is looking for a 3 year deal.
The Jackets need to get their Dmen more involved on offense, what Dman can score when that is not the teams philosophy?
Souray is under contract, isn’t he? At least that’s what shows up according to the listing on NHLnumbers.com.
It would certainly be nice for the Edmonton connection to strike up a deal once again.

The names that have stuck out to me on defense so far are:
Oduya, Bergeron, Beauchemin, Leopold, Seidenberg and Komisarek.

Looking for Redwing leftovers!
Due to the salary cap and the Redwings desire to resign marian Hossa, many young guys will become FA. We need to look hard at all of them with the promise of playing time! Guys like Samuelson, Leino, Helm and Lebda could/should all be available. Unless the Wings decide to let Hossa go, Detroit will have pretty much all of their cap money already tied up.
Jackets, get it done!
Good thought. Seeing the impact Quincey had in LA this year, it would appear to be a smart move to grab any Wings’ leftovers.
